BEAR!

BEAR! is a durational performance of loving gestures by a man in a bear mask. Crawling through a floor of foliage, the Bear will approach you, sniff you and caress you.

At times, he will offer to hold you, attempting to bear your weight for as long as possible. He will present you with tinned salmon while he dances, attempting to stand upright like a ballerina. The Bear’s sanctuary is a peaceful place – the smell of grass fills the room; the sounds of birds singing and branches gently swaying in the breeze play overhead. You’re free to come and go as you please, with the knowledge that the Bear will always be there to hold you again.

BEAR! was originally performed in 2017 as a commission for the Buzzcut Festival at The Pearce Institute.
